August 20th, 2024 - August 23rd, 2024
The 2024-25 school year began with our annual FIR training led by the Associate Director of Academics, Idriss Njike, with assistance from the Academics & First-Year Experience leadership team. During this time, the FIR team welcomed two new faculty into the cohort Dr. Theresa Ambo, Dr. Laura Chavez Moreno, Dr. D'Juan Farmer, Dr. Ankur Mehta . The team reviewed the UCLA’s 2023-2024 student demographics, discussed best practices for engagement, and brainstormed new opportunities to connect with students in the community.
Additionally, FIRs had time to connect with their assigned building community’s professional staff team during training and they worked together to create an engagement plan for the academic year. Bruin Bingo, Trivia Tuesday, First Year Field Trips, and the Undergraduate Research Forum were planned at training.
During the 2024-2025 academic year, FIRs taught Fiat Lux courses related to their academic field or interest.

In collaboration with ResLife’s Leadership and Involvement (On Campus Housing Council and Programming Board), the Faculty-in-Residence (FIR) hosted a fun-filled Bruin Bingo event that brought students together for an evening of excitement and connection! The event kicked off with an interactive icebreaker activity, giving everyone a chance to mingle before the game began. Students competed for awesome prizes, including the grand prize - and iPad with an Apple Pen. The atmosphere at Carnesale Palisades was buzzing with energy as FIRs called out the numbers, engaging with students and sharing in the thrill of the game. It was a great night of community-building and fun for all involved!
