Traffic Flow

Building Check-In Locations
Hedrick Hall & Summit - Outside Hedrick Hall
Hitch - In front of Multipurpose Space (Hitchen)
How It Works
When arriving at Lot 11 (Hedrick Court), vehicles will enter from De Neve Drive and be guided to one of the designated Unloading Zones. Staff and RAs will be available to provide directions, assist with carts, and support the unloading process. After unloading, carts can be used to transport belongings along the pedestrian walkways to Hedrick and Hedrick Summit, or to the nearby Hitch Suites. Vehicles will then exit the lot via Bellagio Drive to keep traffic moving smoothly.
Step-by-Step Traffic Flow
Step 1: Arrival at Lot 11
- Verify residents are in the right location by asking “Hi, where are you looking to move-in to?”
- Vehicles enter the Hill via Bellagio Drive, continue south on De Neve Drive, and turn into Lot 11.
- Residential Life Staff will be stationed alongside the Housing Table and TBAs with carts.
Step 2: Blocked Parking Lanes (Setup for Safety & Flow)
- The following parking lanes in Lot 11 will be blocked off using cones and barricades:
- The ADA parking lane in front of the basketball courts (to create a clear pedestrian and cart pathway).
- The parking lane closest to the lot entrance (to reduce vehicle congestion and provide a staging area if needed).
- The second parking lane will be used as staff parking only and will be designated as such.
- These blocked areas allow TBAs and families to safely navigate carts and belongings without interference from moving vehicles.
Step 3: Queueing Vehicles
- Staff actively manage vehicle flow and queue cars into the designated unloading lanes in the second-to-last parking lane.
- The configuration includes two unloading lanes:
- Leftmost unloading lane (cars “park” diagonally to the left)
- Rightmost unloading lane (cars “park” diagonally to the right)
Step 4: Unloading Process
- Families unload belongings directly from their vehicles.
- True Bruin Ambassadors (TBAs) and moving carts are positioned to assist families unloading from all three lanes.
- Families are reminded to unload efficiently to maintain traffic flow.
Step 5: Overflow Management
- If the three unloading lanes reach capacity, staff will redirect incoming vehicles to the farthest parking lane in Lot 11.
- Cars will enter through the second-to-last parking lane, turn left, and utilize the farthest parking lane to unload.
Step 7: Family Transition to Residence Halls
- Families use pedestrian pathways to transport belongings to Hedrick residence halls with cart assistance from TBAs.
Tips & Tricks for this Location
- Wednesday, September 17 through Saturday, September 20, shuttle service will be available between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM for guests utilizing long-term parking. Shuttles will provide transportation to the Hill with designated stops at Carnesale Commons and Hedrick Hall.
- Language is IMPORTANT. Please remind volunteers that this is an unloading zone for students moving in. Avoid using the term “parking” when speaking with families.
