How It Works
The Rieber Turnaround serves as the final unloading and pick-up zone for students moving into Rieber Terrace, Rieber Vista, Rieber Hall, Olympic Hall, and Centennial Hall. Families will unload their vehicles in Lot 7, where belongings will be transported by moving trucks to the Rieber Turnaround. A dedicated pathway in front of Rendezvous West allows TBAs to efficiently push carts from the turnaround up to residence halls.
Step-by-Step Traffic Flow
Step 1: Arrival at Lot 7 Unloading Zone
- Verify residents are in the right location by asking “Hi, where are you looking to move-in to?”
- Vehicles are directed to Lot 7 where families unload all belongings curbside.
- Moving trucks are stationed in Lot 7 to transport belongings up to the Rieber Turnaround.
- As families load their belongings onto the truck, they receive a sticker or claim ticket that they will present at the Rieber Turnaround to retrieve their items.
Step 2: Transition to Rieber Turnaround
- After unloading, drivers proceed to long-term parking (Lower levels of lots 4 & 7 for overflow).
- Families can either:
- Walk up to the Rieber Turnaround via designated pedestrian routes, OR
- Take the Hill bus from Lot 7 to Rieber Turnaround.
- Residential Life staff and TBAs will be stationed near Rendezvous West to welcome families, answer questions, and guide them toward the Rieber Turnaround.
Step 3: Belonging Pick-Up at Rieber Turnaround
- Upon arrival, families present their sticker/claim ticket to receive their belongings from the moving trucks.
- TBAs assist in retrieving and transporting belongings from the truck to nearby residence halls.
Step 4: Pathway for Cart Transport
- A clear hedged pathway in front of Rendezvous West is established to allow TBAs to safely and efficiently push carts from the turnaround to Rieber Terrace, Vista, and Hall and Olympic and Centennial Halls.
- TBAs should use this path exclusively for cart transport to minimize pedestrian congestion.
Step 5: Exit Procedure
- After belongings are collected, families can proceed to their assigned residence halls to complete move-in.
Tips & Tricks for this Location
- Rendezvous line on Friday/Saturday: once Rendezvous opens, students will stand in line and often will spill into the turnaround, in the path of the trucks pulling into the turnaround. Connect with the dining/shift lead on managing this.
- Language is IMPORTANT. Please remind volunteers that this is an unloading zone for students moving in. Avoid using the term “parking” when speaking with families.
- Maintain ADA pathways and pedestrian access along the hedged pathway.
